I personally have no problem with the WaW system. It encourages competition between players from different regions of the game. However, it does contribute to some hostility. I, myself, have cheered for America when we defeat Korea/Europe that is about to take favor away from us. Heck, I've even cheered for Europe when Korea is one battle away from taking favor and Europe wins, or vice-versa. In a way, the system encourages hostility, but it also (at least to me) encourages us to respect the other regions.

Personally, I wouldn't mind if the real-life regions were all taken away and added in with some fictional regions of which Koreans, Americans, and Europeans would all be able to choose to stay and fight for their fictional region and not their real-life region. Of course, we would need some sort of language districts (like in the current European region), but this would take away all of the "racism" and hostility that's happening with the current WaW system.

Maybe I'm just ranting too much. It is getting a bit late here..

Cheering for your favorite team is not hostility.

If I cheer for the Chicago Bulls in a basketball game that that doesn't encourage hostility toward the Detroit Pistons. The hoistility come from immature people. People are the peoblem not the game. Look at the mirror, there is the problem.

I always see messages from players saying "f****** koreans" everytime the HoH status shows up and Korea is in favor of the gods. This offends me (I'm not korean) because it's not the korean's fault that they win. If I played in the Korean Server and America was in favor of the gods, I doubt koreans would be saying what we say to them.

Yes. And my hat, thank you.

And I still cling to the, perhaps naive, belief that rationale and logic will always, in the end, trump irrationality. It just usually takes a long, hard time.

Ahh, the naivete. How refreshing, ne?

You don't know what they are saying. Are you in Korea?

Maybe after a REALLY long time, there would have been enough tries at it and it actually happens. Kind of like how if you try enough times, you'll eventually win the lottery .

yep this system does encourage racism
everytime korea gets favor i hear people start cursing at the koreans
the few times europe gets favor, people start cursing at the europeans
just about everytime i go to tombs and end up fighting a european team, or a korean team, peope on my team, or people on the enemy team, start cursing at each other
that rarely happens if we face another american team BUT it almost always happens when we face a non american team
ive seen some people that truely seem to have started hating koreans since they started playing this game

i think they should just throw this system out, replace it with something else, or maybe modify it, make it where its not based on real areas in the world
but it should not stay as it currently is
i really doubt they wanted it to turn out the way it has

I don't think they can throw the system out, it's too deeply ingrained now. However they could minimize it's importance by introducing religious factions (the GW gods) and giving them serious rewards... perhaps a several month long process could reduce the nationalism and eventually replace it entirely without much notice and complaint.

Eh, and religious factions would never start a fight, now would they?

So today, I entered the ToA... and guess what I found?

'Korea has the favor of the Gods'

Person A : -------- ---- --- ----- Koreans!
Person B : ---- Korea!
...
Person 8F: --- ---- ------- Korea!

Yes, I am guilty of doing it myself. I would not call it Racism or Nationalism. It is just a spur of the moment sort of thing. I know that I am frustrated when I enter the ToA with a good 30 min or so for a smite run or two and then find myself chasing some idiot around the ToA. If you ask me, I think that (is this even possible?) we should form a kickass international team. I am pretty sure that it would 1) eliminate this problem and 2) bring us closer together!
If anyone wants to help me try this, just PM me with your IGN and I we can try winnin the HoH

I like the system. I'm American and play on the American server. Is it racism? I don't care. Until they fix racism in government, the workplace, schools, etc., I sure as heck am not going to lose sleep over it on a video game.

I just wish Europe was more competitive. It always seems to end up as us vs. the Koreans.

to Martinez... it's a wholistic thing. You can't expect your area of society to be the last to change. It has to be the first to change! Myself, I narrowly avoided a beating yesterday due to being involved in an accident (i'm white in korea). Needless to say, the prospect of any increase in retarded nationalism or racism frightens me.

to Manadar... GW gods. I added it in brackets because I suspected that someone might connect it to RL religions... How bloody dangerous would that be? "Christianity has won a match in the HoH, to take the favor of the gods from Islam, Christianity must win 3 more matches."

sweet crap!

I would suggest that its actually the americans that need to sort out there attitudes then, as I have never heard any of this on the european server.

Nationalisim, is a crock, and is set up on false ideas. The majority of which is actually promoted and stems from Capitalism. Its Capitalism that breeds in equality and racism.

Like I stated before, if you want to let a minority spoil your game that is your choice, me personally I choose to ignor them, ignor them as I would a child that is being naughty, because the naughty child is only doing it to gain attention.

synonyms dude, synonyms...

Shadow: though I like and appreciate your stand, I disagree (but only a bit). Capitalist greed doesn't help (emphasis: greed, capitalism in itself is... well... a whole new can of worms) but the biggest problem is merely difference. I look very different from Koreans and thus face racism on a daily basis. Fortunately, Koreans are generally very respectful and not violent and so I very very rarely find myself in any kind of danger from racism, but its presence still bothers me.

I can read Korean, and before I bought my own account I played on a pc cafe account on a Korean server and occasionally (definately not often) they tended towards unkindness to obviously foreign players.

As for other kinds of racism in game, I've seen little actually. I have very little to complain about in regards to in game racism and nationalism... but the constant reminder of nation vs. nation bothers me.
